On December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
The theme for the 2022 celebration is “Our Time Is Now, Our Rights, Our Future.”
Girls deserve better,the world deserves better. This year’s theme puts the community on notice. Because if anniversaries are normally associated with celebration, this year is a wake-up call to refocus attention on girls and their solutions, to commemorate the anniversary of the International Day of the Girl (IDG) in kaduna Polytechnic main campus Tudun wada, the Mass communication women leader Comrade Rukayyah .K. Usman and Co hosted by the HOD of mass communication department Dr Gambo Ibrahim Ahmad, Mass communication student advicer chief lecturer Mallam Sanusi Rufai Buhari a consultant of Unicef and the entire mass communication executives in collaboration with JAMAR HEALTH FOUNDATION, AFRICAN INITIATIVE FOR ADVANCE SOCIAL CARE AND DEVELOPMENT (AFSCAN}, GIRL PAD and WITED KADPOLY CHAPTER.
Mallam sanusi rufai said the theme for this program is OUR TIME IS NOW AND OUR RIGHTS OUR FUTURE.the program is all about the roles of the girl as that of the boy child. according to him he said a child is a person who is beyond 18yrs,he said the right of a child is to be protected and today so many childrens right have been violated.the activities that may affect a child are much for instance marriage of a child below the age of 18 is wrong and is punishable by law ,no child should be employed as domestic help,allowing a child to hawk or prostitute is punishable by law and so many of this laws have been violated making the girl child experience all forms of violence by either people who are close to them,it is reported Nigeria has the largest number of child abuse.
